Stampscapes Gallery
Stampscapes is a stamp company that provides finely detailed images that are scaled and proportionate for scene building. The scenery and subject matter is diverse enough to keep any stamp artist busy making an infinite number of compositions for years! Scenes can be built on miniature tiles, or as large as murals!

Tonya Weakley is Peddlers Den's Stampscapes Specialist and Instructor. "Stampscapes is the only stamp line, and the related scene building techniques are the only techniques, that I never get bored with," she says. Kevin Nakagawa is the artist behind Stampscapes, and the owner of the company. To see his work, visit www.stampscapes.com. To learn this fascinating technique, contact Tonya at Peddlers Den. She has been teaching Stampscapes and scene building since approx. 1995, and it remains her favorite line. She offers beginner to advanced skill level classes, from a simple hour and a half project class to all day MegaClasses, workshops and retreats. Groups often make arrangements to travel to Peddlers Den from surrounding states for private classes.

Hot Tropics, by Tonya Weakley
My hot tropics scenes take you to the exotic land of palms, grass huts, spear fishermen and more. The color scheme is HOT, and relies heavily on red and opposite colors on the color wheel. The colors are dramatic and aggressive. This class includes advanced use of color, and is not recommended for inexperienced stampers. We strongly suggest that you take our all day class before considering the Hot Tropics.

The sailboat in green lagoon to the left is a 5"x7" greeting card rendition of the frameable sailboat in green lagoon from the 2010 Chicago Retreat. I developed this smaller card version specifically for our Advanced Mega Class.

Quick Scapes
This is a brayered background class, and we offer this as a beginning stamping class, too. One is a 2 hour class, the other is a 3 hour class. These cards are amazingly fast to make. They require little or no masking and no blending. Everyone must have their own 6" soft rubber brayer.

Northwoods & Tree Scenes

Moon Over Brookside Falls (at left) features foaming, bubbly water and is embellished with ultra fine glitter.

To the right is Sailboat In Foggy Lagoon, which features very heavy fog, sharp foreground and gray, less distinct background. The yellow highlights show the sun is just rising, and is not high enough in the sky (yet) to burn off the thick fog.

Both of these cards were developed for our Advanced Mega Class.

Shutter Card

To make this shutter card I first created a Stampscapes scene that was 8.5"x11". Turns out I needed 5.25"x10", so I had some extra to cut off. I took the navy blue linen cardstock and made the card base. Then I took my scene and cut it up into the appropriate sized strips. I left 1/8" navy blue margin showing all the way around each scene panel. Finally, I embellished this with ultra fine glitter (very hard to see in the scan). When this is folded up it fits in a standard A2 envelope, and the Gratitude verse shows on the front. When opened you see the Thank you and signature. The card can be made for any occasion.

Framable Art

The scene at the left, Misty Morning, was stamped by Tonya Weakley from a scene by Kevin Nakagawa during the 2010 Stampscapes Retreat in Chicago. An example of frameable artwork, the original is 8"x10" and features 11 different images. The color was added by using a combination of blending tips and the tonal applicator.

Hand Blended Backgrounds

Other
Shown above is Loon on Stampboard, as well as two different ways to use the snow leopard image. The one with the hot red sky was copied from Marge Dady at a retreat. The other one is by Tonya Weakley.

Winter Stampscapes
Winter stampscapes are monochromatic, reflecting the lack of color present during the winter season in our northern states. They feature bare branched trees, harsh mountain peaks and fir trees. Life still exists in this cold, dormant world, and that is illustrated by the deer that venture in. The cards are embellished with transparent glitter, to enhance the icy, snowy season and the sun glinting off of it.

What Our Students Say,
& Our Student Gallery:

Darlene O'Meara
"I drove from Michigan to attend one of Tonya's all day classes. I did not know what to expect. I really enjoyed the time I spent with Tonya. I learned a lot about blending and colors and how to use my stamps. I made my Christmas cards this year using Stampscapes and some of techniques that I learned in class. I even made coasters out of tiles to match my cards and gave them as gifts. I am by no means an artist but taking Tonya's class made me look like one. Thank you Tonya for the great class." --Darlene

Shown at the left is the beautiful Christmas card that Darlene sent to me after taking the Mega Class. The scan does not do the card justice. While the Stampscapes scene is stamped on coated cardstock, cut and tiled, the dark blue mat, as well as the card base, are both shimmer stock. The card is beautiful, and we are proudly displaying it at Peddlers Den. Thank you, Darlene, for sharing with us!

Cheryl Miller
"We made 16 scenes in one Saturday class (8 - 4:30). Tonya Weakley at the Peddlers Den agreed to design a class for my group who had to travel so far. I don't have enough nice things to say about Tonya and the Mega Stampscapes class. Four of us came in from Cedar Rapids to Tonya's store. I can't recommend the class enough. Keep in mind I was brand new at Stampscapes and look what I was able to do in this class. I can't tell you how much I enjoyed that class and believe in that class. I think that it is important to state to people that they don't have to be advanced in stampscapes when taking that class, just advanced stampers. Great class and great teacher! All the credit for the beautiful scenes goes to Tonya and the Peddler's Den." -- Cheryl

Marge Dady
"Some friends and I took a Stampscapes class recently at the Peddler's Den in Somanauk, IL. The owner and instructor, Tonya Weakley, does fantastic work. We truly enjoyed the class and learning the techniques of scene building and color application using the ColorBox stylus and applicator tips. These are my attempt to replicate some of her designs. They aren't as good as the original, but I like them and had fun learning." --Marge

Trena Brannon
"The projects were appropriate for beginner or advanced stampers. The instructor made the students feel comfortable and made us feel that we could achieve the techniques and be creative and experiment."

What others are saying about the all day class:

"Even though I would have liked to have created more scenes (I kept messing up), I REALLY do like not being rushed. I loved learning the coloring techniques." Sue Morgan

"Fantastic class. Well conducted, organized. Thank you!" Pat Persin

"Tonya was very patient with me when I was unsure of coloring techniques which made me feel better and made a great comfortable learning environment. I look forward to attending all the future classes!" Aaron Giltjes-Wilson
